Analysis and Control of a Modular Multilevel Cascaded Converter-Based Unified Power Flow Controller

This article presents a novel configuration for unified power flow controller (UPFC) comprising modular multilevel cascaded converter (MMCC) with full-bridge inverter. The MMCC has one end of each phase-leg shunt-connected to the transmission line. other connects in parallel primary terminals series line transformer, and ac output dc–ac submodules are flying capacitor converters. UPFC is compared another type MMCC-UPFC which uses double-star configuration, half-bridge chopper type; this referred as Double Star Chopper Cells (DSCC-UPFC). comparison terms footprint, cost, performance. new topology lighter, more efficient, cheaper than DSCC. Its operating principle control scheme, combines regulation voltage flow, presented. Simulation studies proposed realizing dual sourced network presented show good performance under varying operation conditions. also evaluates margins device.
